With a dream in mind and her family’s support, Trendy Treads opened its doors in 2005, quickly gaining a reputation for its warm, personal service and dedication to providing the best fit for growing feet.
“We worked hard to establish the business in those early days,” says Karen. “My sister Jill and I would travel to Birmingham twice a year to attend trade shows, finding new suppliers and exploring all things new for the seasons. We advertised in the local papers every other week, and word spread fast.”
From the very beginning, Trendy Treads was about more than just selling shoes – it was about building trust and offering customers a service they could rely on. And with the addition of dancewear collections, the business continued to expand and evolve, meeting the needs of even more local families and dance schools.

“I wouldn’t change a thing,” Karen shares. “Although COVID hit us hard, I’m incredibly proud of how we’ve continued to serve our customers and adapt. I’m definitely a people person, and I’ve loved every minute of my journey, despite the aches and pains in my knees! But the best part is seeing the same customers return – many of them now bringing in their children, and even their grandchildren. It’s truly mind-blowing.”
The support of Karen’s family and the amazing team at Trendy Treads has been key to the business’s longevity. From the very first day, it’s been clear that Trendy Treads is a family affair, and that close-knit atmosphere continues to shine through in everything they do.
